1. Who is Carhartt flame-resistant clothing (FRC) designed for?
Electricians and workers in the utility, oil, gas and petrochemical fields who are at risk of exposure to electric arc and flash fires, which could cause severe or fatal burn injuries.

2. How does Carhartt FRC help protect against burn injury?
Wearing FRC will provide thermal protection which if exposed to electric arcs or flash fires will self-extinguish after the source of ignitions is removed, limiting the body burn percentage

3. How does Carhartt FRC self-extinguish?
The flame-resistant fabrics are impregnated with flame retardant chemicals that extinguish flames and help the fabric char.

4. Can the flame-resistant chemicals be washed out?
No. Carhartt FRC is guaranteed to be flame-resistant for the useful life of the garment; garment care instructions must be followed to maintain flame resistance.

5. Will 100% cotton and other natural fibers help protect against possible burn injury?
Cotton and wool are flammable fibers. If exposed to electric arcs and flash fires, these materials will continue to burn causing possible severe injury and death

6. What is ATPV?
Arc Thermal Performance Value is a rating assigned to FRC indicating the level of protection provided. Higher fabric weights have higher ATPV's and provide increased protection as does the layering of FRC.

7. Is ATPV the same as calories per centimeter squared?
Yes, according to NFPA-70E, arc ratings are expressed as ATPV or cal/cm squared.

8. Does Carhartt FRC meet clothing standards?
Yes, Carhartt FRC meets the requirements of ASTM F1506-02ae1, NFPA-70E and OSHA 20 CFR 1910.269

9. How can Carhartt FRC be distinguished from traditional Carhartt?
Carhartt FR garments are identified with a 'FR Carhartt" patch. Product hang tags also distinguish Carhartt FRC.

10. How often can INDURA® Ultra Soft® garments be washed and still maintain flame-resistance?
The flame-resistance of INDURA® Ultra Soft® is guaranteed for the life of the garment regardless of the number of servicing in either the home or industrial laundering provided laundering instructions are followed.

11. Can Carhartt FRC be used for wildland fire fighting?
Carhartt FRC has not been tested to meet the requirements of NFPA 1977, The Standard for Protective Clothing and Equipment for Wildland Fire Fighting, it is not recommended for this use
